Concert 05.02.09

Recently Marianne Papke (sociology teacher – Gymnasium Bremen – Obervieland) established contact with the music teacher and professional musician Emanuel Jahreis (Gymnasium Bremen – Kurt-Schumacher-Allee) whose spontaneous idea of organising a benefit concert in aid of the hospital in Minsa/Managua will now be put into action.

The concert will take place on 5th February 2009 in the Bremer Schlachthof. 100% of all ticket sale proceeds from the concert will flow to the project “For the Children” and will then be used for the benefit of the hospital (Velez Paiz-Minsa) in Managua (Nicaragua).

The Bremer Schlachthof is kindly supporting the project and will lease the premises to us at an extremely reasonable price. We are extremely grateful to the administration of the Schlachthof for this!

The school associations of Gymnasium Obervieland and the Gymnasium Kurt-Schumacher-Allee are paying for the discounted leasing costs. We are very grateful to the school associations for this!

An advanced music course from the Kurt-Schumacher-Allee school is now attending to the project work, in particular the concert preparations like marketing, advertising for sponsors, light and sound, program planning, ticket sales etc.

The musical leadership is under the direction of Emanuel Jahreis. Together with the singer Annamaria Florio from Rome, the drummer and percussionist Frank Mattutat, the double-bass player Stephan Werner, harmonica player Oliver Haberstock, the Bessel Choir of Bremen and many other musicians, Emanuel will arrange a colourful mix of music not just limited to Latin-American. The musicians will waive their fee and consequently support the project. Many thanks for that!

Acceptance Speech – Schlachthof Concert, 05.02.2009

My name is Marianne Papke and I am the organiser of the Nicaragua project here in Bremen.

Before I thank the many musicians, my twin sister, Gisela Chrisman, and I would like to name some of the “behind the scenes” helpers. Without them we would never have gotten so far:

All the doctors and nurses at the children’s hospital “Velez Paiz-Minsa” in Managua.

Monika Fredebrecht who was our local organiser.

Dieter Mazur for the many years of support and for the exhibition here at the Schlachthof.

Marius Kirschke for the professional homepage.

David Rowley, Lorraine Frisina, Davut Bilan, Nieves Peres, Georges and Madelaine Schmitz for the English and Spanish translations.

The 12th grade sociology advanced course for the successful radio play.

Sebastian Jahreis for the successful design of the posters and flyers.

Pico Wilm for the digitalisation of all photos.

Mrs. Luise Scherf as co-organiser of “Pan-y-Arte” in Granada and Managua.

Dr. Hubertus von Schwarzkopf as the company medical officer from the ‘Klinikum Mitte’ for the patient and dedicated project advisory.

Mr. Schlüter as communications expert from the hospital “Links der Weser” for the management of common activities.

Sponsors such as:

The advisory committee “Beirat Obervieland”
The school associations of “KSA” and “Obervieland”
The Schlachthof
The BIZ (Career Information Centre)
Radio Bremen

Thomas Dahm and Hauke Nehrhoff for the film work on this project.

My thanks also to both of the 11th grade classes. For both classes this project was a large and exceptional challenge. They were very successful and sometimes we ask ourselves, “Can’t school be really different?”

And now a big thank-you to all musicians and the “Bessel” choir with Gisela Tamm for your support.

And the best: Thanks to the man who had the great idea for organizing this concert: Emanuel Jahreis for the design of the varied music programs.
A quick note on the success of the concert: today we have earned around 2,800 to 3,000 Euros purely through the sale of tickets!
