Welcome to „For the Children“

“For the Children” is an initiative which aims at bringing medical aid to the children in need in Nicaragua.

On this website, you will find information about the desperate material needs of Nicaragua’s healthcare system. Particularly close to our hearts is the dramatic situation in the children’s hospital, Valez Paiz - Minsa, in the center of Nicaragua’s capital, Managua. Here especially young burn casualties require the greatest care but are severely neglected due to a lack of medical equipment.

“For the Children” is a project in Gymnasium Obervieland (Obervieland High School) in Bremen/Germany.

In February 2004 this project was started by the students of a sociology class and their teacher Marianne Papke on the basis of an idea by Gisela Chrisman (USA), - Marianne Papke’s twin sister. Shortly before this the school had been given the award “School without racism - school with courage”.

Further courses, along with their teachers, are now continuing the work on this school project in diverse and creative ways.
